Candy, Pumpkins, Costumes, Oh My!

Our Halloween party in 2016. Royal Zombies!

There is no secret that October is the best month of the year. I don’t know about you but as soon as I see the first hint of fall hit the stores I automatically start thinking, “What are we going to do for Halloween?!” Halloween has been my favorite night of the year for as long as I can remember. It is safe to say that nothing has changed. Ok, a lot has changed. I am now a mom and instead of me going door to door with a pillow case, yes a pillow case, it is my children who are getting their bags filled with candy. If you only knew how much I enjoy candy you would get my excitement. But more than anything I love the costumes!

The Cookes as the Addams Family 2018

Growing up I remember always going trick or treating with my friends. I didn’t hand out candy with my parents or do family costumes. That was cool but I knew when I had a family of my own I would do things different. I wanted to do Halloween parties and family costumes. I wanted to celebrate Halloween as they did on Hocus Pocus or Halloweentown. I dreamed about living in a neighborhood full of kids who flooded the streets on Halloween night. I wanted to live in a town like Stars Hollow and attend festivals and trunk or treats all October long. Although I am still searching for my small town dream, we do not miss a beat when it comes to celebrating Halloween.

Rugrats 2019

One year my kids will be done with family costumes and I will be devastated. lol However, for now I will continue to enjoy dressing up with my tribe for Halloween. October will continue to be a month full of celebration, filled with fall and Halloween activities. I am a mom that is all about traditions. Big or small, I want to make sure my family knows I put forth the effort to make each season special. I hope my children look back and think, man my childhood was amazing lol and that they continue these traditions with their families. See Halloween is not just my favorite night of the year, it is a night I get to create memories and bring joy to my children. Yes! One day they will want to do their own thing but until then I will soak up these moments! Happy Halloween Loves.
